I first compiled Behold The Long Wave back in 2012. It consisted of 63 short "blips" that had been made using material from professional projects I had been working on at the time, for inclusion on my blog.
The idea was to illustrate what was happening under the bonnet of mixes, and shine a light on unusual textures or moments that would otherwise be obscured by the finished mix.
You can still listen to that original compilation here:

Some of the material from that initial release went on to find a permanent home on other records (that at the time of Behold's release had not been completed).
An example of this would be the track 'superlongtermboyfriends', which initially I just regarded as a blip, but upon reflection felt that it stood up as a track in its own right and deserved inclusion on my solo album of that time The Great Disconnect.
Therefore, I felt Behold deserved to be re-framed, with the sonics balanced a little better, and the blips that went on to appear as proper songs on other records removed. It felt unfair to continue to include them on what was supposed to be a show reel of cutting room extracts.
What should remain is a purer representation of the original purpose of the Behold record: a collection of textures, outtakes and stems from my production processes, that were posted on my blog between 2005 and 2012.
The original 2012 blurb to this record is included below:
"As an occupational hazard of my production work over the years, small 'blips' of music began to leak out of the sides of projects.
These brief snippets of sound were often rendered late at night for inclusion on my blog, as a preview of what I was working on (without giving away the full picture).
They featured elements from the production palette that made up the components of a finished track: an isolated lead vocal echoing out into the emptiness, an unaccompanied guitar overdub adrift in a sea of its own reverb, or a flickering drum beat barely audible on the final mix.
Some of these brief experiments morphed into mutations of their parent composition. They became original pieces in their own right.
Other offerings simply elicited an insight into the layers and textures which lurked deep in the grooves of a completed recording.
'Behold The Long Wave' collects together the most esoteric of these blips, forming an Imperfect Document that allows you to reach into the multitrack experiment of our modern age."
