This is by far the most vulnerable and potentially cringe-worthy of all my solo collections, since it documents very rough and ready recordings that I made using just piano (and in two cases guitar) and voice, over a protracted period of time.

Often I would prop up the dictaphone, audio recorder or mobile phone on the music stand of the piano, play the chords and sing over the top.

Nothing was done particularly proficiently, and certainly wasn't intended for others to hear. Everything was done first take, and largely improvised. The lyrics came straight from diary entries in the notebook, in whatever order I happened to read them in.

At the time of recording, I thought the pieces might go on to receive more polished treatments in the future. They never did. Because they all featured vocals, they couldn't be used as textures in my later ambient works. So they just sat in dusty forgotten regions of various orphaned hard disks.

When I took it upon myself to archive my work in 2017, I found that these songs could sit together as a purely acoustic album, and thus set the recordings free... however much I might wince at the thought of other people actually hearing them! They represent something raw and unvarnished, and goes against the perfectionist zeal I often employ when trying to finish music.

They also happen to be melodies and chords that fell out of me, despite not having what would be described as the "traditional" songwriting chops many of my musical collaborators share.

Other than some balancing of levels, EQ, compression - and one weak moment of applying a low pass filter - nothing has been done to alter these recordings since they the day they were tracked. Please judge them accordingly!
